WEEKEND ONE:
Friday, August 1: 6pm-8pm - The creative adventure begins with a community building potluck dinner Bring a dish and get to know your comrades!
Saturday and Sunday, August 2 and 3: 11am-3pm (lunch provided)
Drawing from their 20+ year creative practice, The Yoggs, Taryn Griggs and Chris Yon (recipients of Trillium’s 2024 North Carolina Choreographic Fellowship) will introduce assignments, games, scores and improvisations to generate material throughout the first weekend. The Yoggs are excited to engage and create with artists of all disciplines. Learn More about The Yoggs HERE.
Participants will leave with assignments and prompts meant to inspire continued generation of additional material over the following week.
WEEKEND TWO:
Friday, August 8: Come when you can. The Yoggs will be in the studio from 4pm-8pm. Workshop participants can come by and work when they are available. Not available in person, not a problem! We will also offer a way to join us virtually.
Saturday and Sunday, August 9 and 10: Workshops 11am-3pm (lunch provided)
Performance: August 10 at 4pm
When we reconvene for the 2nd weekend we will assemble, manipulate, cut, paste, combine and experiment with how to put all our pieces together. The resulting collaborative creation will incorporate movement, but not necessarily be "dance." Inspired by chance operations and the working dynamics of luminaries such as Merce Cunningham, John Cage and Robert Rauschenberg, be ready to embrace the unexpected! The end result will likely be a "Happening “for both artists and audiences alike.
“Game to Play” will be performed on August 10 for invited guests, followed by a meet the artists reception.
Details: This series is intended to be a multi-media, multi-disciplinary experience. Human connection is key, and space is limited to a max of 12 participants. The exact type of material that will be generated by the group will in large part depend on the types of artistry that participants bring to the table. In order to ensure a multidisciplinary atmosphere, we are requesting that interested participants pre-register and complete a Statement of Interest providing more information about your creative trajectory.
Please submit your Statement of Interest by Monday, June 23.
The Yoggs will review the Statements and curate a group of up to 12 finalists that represent a mix of artistic genres. Selected artists will be notified by Friday, June 27.
Suggested Donation: $30 or pay what you can
Free for WNC artists who were significantly impacted by Hurricane Helene. Payment will be requested of finalists beginning July 1st.
