There’s no shortage of inspiration at our space.

Trillium Arts programs take place on 22 rural acres nestled in the Blue Ridge Mountains, 35 minutes north of Asheville in Mars Hill, NC. The property, which features a gazebo, firepit, gentle waterfall and a private hot tub, is delightfully secluded, but just 15 minutes via car to the town of Mars Hill, which offers basic needs including grocery stores, restaurants and Mars Hill University. A short drive away, Asheville is a creative and thriving city that many call “the San Francisco of the South.” The region boasts incredible talent in the performing arts as well as many other creative sectors, including the visual arts and fine craft production, such as ceramics, pottery and weaving.  The area abounds with natural beauty, and there are opportunities to explore on hikes and day trips to such ecological treasures as the Blue Ridge Parkway, the Great Smoky Mountains and Pisgah National Forest.

 Other items of note:

  • The residency takes place in a rural location. There are beautiful views, but also steep hills. Pack accordingly. Bring sturdy shoes. Bug spray is recommended. You may encounter wildlife. If you don’t appreciate nature, this may not the right residency for you.

  • Cell phone service can be spotty. Verizon phones work best at our location, but connection with all cellphone carriers cannot be guaranteed. There is a house/landline phone that artists are welcome to use for the duration of the residency.

  • Trillium has high speed fiber optic internet connectivity. That said, for artists using high demand video technology, we recommend bringing Ethernet cables or other equipment to create hard wired connectivity to the modem.
